Dedicated Mental Health Support for Schools and Colleges.
Helping education communities improve mental health with teachers, pupils and the wider school community.
Helping education communities improve mental health with teachers, pupils and the wider school community.
During 25 years spent working in education, I have seen the impact poor mental health has on teachers, pupils and the wider school community. That is why I decided to combine my experience as a meditation and mindfulness practitioner with my understanding of school communities to create CAREFUL MINDS – a service devoted to improving the mental health and well-being of anyone involved in the education sector.
How Can I Help?
The aim of Careful Minds is to be proactive in dealing with mental health – teaching strategies that will strengthen mental and emotional resilience before pupils and teachers reach crisis point.
I offer a variety of services, ranging from one-off ‘taster’ workshops introducing the basics of mindfulness and meditation, through to a series of experiences aimed at developing pupils and teachers’ use of mindfulness techniques in daily life.
'Just to say thanks again for today; it was so lovely to see our pupils gain so much focus and concentrate on positive thoughts. '

CARE-FULL MINDS
Every single one of us, regardless of age, background, status etc have minds that (at least some of the time) are filled with (or care-full of) concerns, and worries. Engaging in mindfulness practices can help us manage the day-to-day stresses of our busy modern lives.
CAREFUL WITH OUR MIND
Through training in mindfulness we can become more careful about the ways we use our mind. By learning to direct our mind away from troubling and negative mental habits, we will experience less emotional turbulence through developing more constructive ways of thinking and positive mental habits.
CAREFUL WITH OTHERS
As we become more skilful in our practice of mindfulness, we develop into effective emotional communicators and connectors, becoming more considerate and caring towards others. Through engaging with our daily lives in a mindful way, we can improve our relationships with both our selves and others.
These are some of the ways in which I can work with teachers to promote mental well-being and resilience.
During the INSET I will explain:
Designed to be delivered to small groups (such as Heads of Year, pastoral leads etc), this series of eight workshops will teach participants the fundamental practices related to mindfulness, which can then be used in school to support teachers and students.
Working with PSHCE co-ordinators to develop and implement Mindfulness within the PSHCE curriculum. This would include:
Helping to build the mindfulness curriculum
Trialling the delivery of sample lessons.
Outlined below are some of the mindfulness workshops and activities I can offer that will help students build mental and emotional resilience.
Depending on your requirements, whole day workshops can be aimed at working with a specific group of pupils for the day, or a carousel of classes. Workshop content will vary according to the requirements of your brief.
A series of eight weekly workshops, .paws (aimed at 7 -11 year olds) and .b (aimed at 11 - 18 year olds) is a structured programme helping pupils manage their mental well-being and emotions through mindfulness practices.
This one-to-one practice is aimed at pupils who are specifically struggling with anxiety and stress. Through expressing their concerns through drawing, and gentle targeted questioning, Draw and Talk allows children the space they need to clarify their thoughts and feelings about challenging situations.
I passionately believe that, in order to bring about long term benefits, involving parents and carers, governors and support staff is essential to successfully embed mindful awareness in to the school community ethos.
Carer meetings will introduce parents to mindfulness and how these practices can benefit their children both in school and at home. The one-hour session will include:
As a practising Buddhist, I am also able to offer workshops introducing pupils to core Buddhist beliefs and lead them in simple meditation practices. This can be incorporated into school enrichment activities such as World Religions Days or PSHCE days. Please email for more information.
Although Careful Minds specialises in nourishing mental health and well-being in education, mindfulness techniques can also support mental health and well-being in the corporate world. For more information, please contact me.
